MUCKMEN CD RELEASE PARTY

So, I wasn't sure which of my blogs I should post this on. Divine Exploitation deals with strange films and the like, Penguin Comics does the comics and more mainstream films out there. That left. This one. It makes sense that since I am observing a musical event, that it should go here.
I got off to a late start and missed the first band. Someone said they were a blues group. Too bad. I like the blues.
I rode by bike to The Strutt and got it chained to a traffic sign. I went inside and was hit with a wall of humidity. I could feel the sweat streaming down my arms and I was a little surprised that sweat was dripping off my arms as well. I located one of the huge fans they had blowing throughout and froze the sweat on my body. Then I went off to bar for liquid refreshment.
The Strutt is designed where there is a front bar in the big room and there is a smaller room in the back that also has a bar. After waiting in the huge line in the front for about five minutes, I made my way to the back and got a lovely Pitch Black IPA to cool me down.
The next band is called Their Teeth Will Be Of Lions. Great name. Their lead singer wails like a female version of Mike Hard and all the band are insane when it comes to playing. It was a great sound. How great you ask? Well, since they had an album on vinyl, I bought it. And it's pink vinyl which is so cool. That's one that will get some consistent play time on the turntable.
During the break for The Muckmen to set up I found out that Stephanie and John Leiby of one of my favorite bands, Terror, Terror Oh My!, were there. See John plays for Their Teeth Will Be Of Lions. It was hard to tell since he was wearing a dimestore, plastic vampire mask the whole time. I chatted with them both and they promised me cassettes of their band when I go to see them at Louie's on the 18th of this month.
The Muckmen hit the stage and I have to tell you that I always like a band with a brass section. They reminded me of The Planet Smashers, which is great. Even with the humidity, the bands rocked and they all looked like they lost about five pounds each of sweat.
If I had had a few more bucks I would have gotten the Muckmen CD, but there was vinyl, man! All will fall before the might that is vinyl!
All in all, one of the best shows I have seen in quite sometime and it was at my favorite venue in Kalamazoo.
