Okay, I live on Douglas Ave. in Kalamazoo. We have a huge yard and a privacy fence that covers two thirds of the place. The entire lot is on a hill. I don't really have a plat piece of yard anywhere. It's been nearly six years so I am used to it.
On the South side of the yard, next to the privacy fence is an abundance of black raspberry bushes. I have harvested quarts of berries over the years.
Our lot goes up a hill and is mostly wild overgrowth and woods. In the Winter it's a hike to get up the hill, but we tend to overlook the whole business in the summer. Too many pricker bushes and mosquitoes.
I got a trimmer this year and decided that we should be able to hike up the hill in the summer if we wish. Now, it's an electric trimmer so it only goes so far, but I am making progress.
In my hacking through the underbrush I discovered a couple of black raspberry bushes.
Today was different.
I broke through a particularly rough growth of underbrush to discover what could only be referred to as a black raspberry orchard!
They go as far as the eye can see.
Tomorrow I will go up armed with bug spray, but today I got two pints without even trying. I plan on making some wine in the near future.
Wish me luck.
